June 2026 MDL Statistics Report
Comprehensive analysis of federal multidistrict litigation data from the United States Judicial Panel on Multidistrict Litigation (JPML).
June 2026 Overview
The June 2026 JPML report shows 202,129 pending actions across 159 active dockets, crossing the 200,000-case threshold for the first time. Pending cases grew by 2,445 from May (+1.2%). The docket count held steady at 159 — no new MDLs were centralized and none were terminated this month.
Depo-Provera (MDL-3140) dominated the month with a record +1,739 single-month surge (3,769 → 5,508), the largest one-month increase tracked for any MDL this year and roughly triple its prior pace. The spike — which alone accounts for more than 70% of the system-wide net growth — reflects a wave of filings ahead of the litigation's upcoming general-causation Daubert hearing (June 24-26) and pending federal preemption ruling. The surge vaulted Depo-Provera from 11th to 9th among the largest active MDLs.
Other strong gainers included J&J Talcum Powder (MDL-2738), which added 406 cases to reach 68,029 and remains by far the largest active MDL, alongside Hair Relaxer (MDL-3060, +197), Bard PowerPort (MDL-3081, +189), Social Media Addiction (MDL-3047, +137), Uber Sexual Assault (MDL-3084, +134), and GLP-1/Ozempic (MDL-3094, +127).
On the other side, Elmiron (MDL-2973) fell sharply by 275 cases (568 → 293) and Taxotere (MDL-2740) shed 226 (508 → 282), both reflecting accelerating confidential settlement activity as those litigations wind down. The federal MDL system remains highly concentrated: the top 5 dockets account for 64.3% of all pending actions and the top 25 for 95.7%.
